What Causes Tooth Sensitivity?
Tooth sensitivity can come and go over time. It occurs when the enamel that protects your teeth gets thinner, or when gum recession occurs, exposing the underlying surface, the dentin, and reducing the protection the enamel and gums provide to the tooth and root. This can happen for many reasons, including:
- Excessive brushing
- Pressure
- Teeth grinding or clenching
- Consumption of acidic foods and liquids
Treatment Options for Tooth Sensitivity
After your dentist determines the cause of your sensitivity, treatment may be as simple as fixing a cavity or replacing a worn filling. However, if your discomfort stems from gum loss exposing root surfaces, your dentist may suggest a gum graft that a periodontist would perform to protect the root surface and support the tooth.
If there isn’t a specific cause for your sensitivity, your dentist may apply an in-office fluoride gel to strengthen the tooth enamel and reduce painful sensations. An over-the-counter desensitizing toothpaste may be recommended as well.

How Is a Cracked Tooth Treated?
A cracked tooth means a crack extends from the chewing surface of your tooth vertically toward the root. The tooth is not yet separated into pieces, though the crack may gradually spread. Early diagnosis is important to save the tooth.
If the crack has extended into the pulp, the tooth can be treated with a root canal procedure and a crown to protect the crack from spreading. A cracked tooth that is not treated will progressively worsen. If the crack extends below the gum line, it is no longer treatable, and the tooth will need to be extracted. That’s why early treatment is so important.
What Can I Do to Prevent My Teeth from Cracking?
While cracked teeth are not completely preventable, you can take some steps to make your teeth less susceptible to cracks:
- Don’t chew on hard objects such as ice, unpopped popcorn kernels, or pens.
- Don’t clench or grind your teeth. If you clench or grind your teeth while you sleep, talk to your dentist about getting a retainer or other mouthguard to protect your teeth.
- Wear a mouthguard or protective mask when playing contact sports.

Cold Sore Treatment
Our experienced team can help you treat and prevent cold sores.
Treatment Detail
What is a Cold Sore?
Cold sores are a common nuisance. Although there is no cure for the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1 and HSV-2) that causes them, cold sore breakouts can be managed and avoided. Cold sores, sometimes called fever blisters, appear around the lips and mouth and are often associated with red, swollen, and irritated skin around the breakout areas.
Treatment for Cold Sores
There is no cure for cold sores; however, your doctor can prescribe the use of medications that can be useful for their treatment and prevention. Although none of these medications will eliminate the dormant HSV-1 infection that causes cold sores, they can help the sores heal faster and relieve the associated pain and discomfort. They also can help to suppress a cold-sore outbreak. If you are suffering from a cold sore and need cold sore treatment, call Dental Care at Crystal Park now.

Haley Trigueros2025-10-17Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was having issues with an extraction I had for two weeks straight by another doctor I explained my concern to Dr Runwal she figured out what no body else did. She took out piece of tooth left in my gums which would not let me heal completely once she did that I was able to recover and feel better. She did and amazing job I’m so glad I came to her. D’Mar Curtis2025-10-16Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. From the moment I stepped into Dr. Runwal’s office, I knew I had found a truly exceptional dental practice. The entire team—Dr. Runwal, Nikki, Patrice, and especially Michal (forgive me if I’ve misspelled his name) embodies professionalism, compassion, and genuine care. Dr. Runwal is an extraordinary dentist with a rare and refined touch that reflects both technical mastery and an authentic commitment to patient comfort. Her ability to combine clinical precision with a calming presence makes every visit a remarkably positive experience. Nikki is incredibly kind, efficient, and welcoming. She sets the tone for a warm and seamless patient experience the moment you walk through the door. Patrice, the office manager, is the epitome of professionalism—compassionate, understanding, and remarkably flexible. She ensures every detail of care and scheduling is handled with grace and empathy. However, I must highlight Michal, who assisted during my dental procedure. He was absolutely superb—knowledgeable, personable, non-judgmental, and sincerely attentive. He not only made me feel comfortable but also managed to build a genuine connection, balancing humor with professionalism and efficiency. His bedside manner is exceptional and reflects a level of patient engagement that is truly rare in healthcare. This office has redefined my expectations of what dental care should feel like. I left feeling cared for, heard, and deeply respected. I will never go anywhere else as long as this team is operating, and I will wholeheartedly recommend them to all my friends and family. If you are seeking expert dental care delivered with compassion, integrity, and a human touch, look no further than Dr. Runwal and her phenomenal team.Google rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 2 reviews
